Weekend Project #2

I have decided that ANYTHING I do to my house makes it look better. SERIOUSLY. I've been really picky for two years spending countless hours online envisioning a spectacular home. In reality, that time should have been spent 1.) cleaning and 2.) painting.

After inspiration from Country Living Magazine and my homegirl Martha Stewart, I have painted my entire living room. Minus the trim I'm almost done. (Big thanks to Cathleen Campbell who was actually excited about helping paint.)

I love the blue door. And I have some spectacular pictures from my mountain adventures to eventually put on the wall.

Home Improvements

I'm still working on my kitchen. I got some of the wainscotting put up Friday night (only two walls to go!) I have no idea when I'll be able to finish the rest. This 3.5 day week is pretty packed. Don't be too critical, I still have to put on the finishing touches!

Renewed Motivation - Scraping Wallpaper

After a great trip to Haxtun for Tessa's 2nd Birthday, I returned home to do more work on my Introduction to Research class, work on my yard, and yes I decided to tackle a wall of wallpaper this week. (I picked the smallest one.)

Here is the wall, I want it done before I leave for my cousin's wedding this weekend so....

PS. I've also opted to try and get my closet doors painted this week.

Back to Home Improvement in the Back Room

As my alarm went off at 6:00 for the second day in a row, in hopes of going climbing with my buddy and coworker, Jeff, my hopes were dashed by the second day in a row of rainy weather here in Colorado. I opted not to complain about the weather and trade in climbing for a day of work on my house.

I have been working on the back room. After time and time and time again swearing not to put any wallpaper on my walls (as I was scraping wallpaper off my walls) I put some up on one of my problem walls in the back room. It actually looks decent. I have painted the whole room white (actually Benjamin Moore mascarpone AF-20) and it looks nice. Today I replaced electrical outlets, installed a ceiling fan (which was cheaper than the light fixture I was going to put in) switched the switches and pulled up the carpet.

My only disappointment is that the linoleum under the carpet wasn't in spectacular shape, not horrible, just not what I was hoping. Let me say this though, the carpet was NASTY. (more on what I did with this carpet later)

I've taken some before and during photos and will most definitely post them along with my after photos when I get everything done and moved in since I've decided to use this as my bedroom as it has the most closet space. My room is going to become my office/spare room, since I'm taking a few classes this summer.

Tomorrow I hope to get the finishing touches done on the paint, put up the blinds, finish taking the tack strips out of the floor, mop the floor, and brainstorm a list of options for my floor. For entertainment and exercise, I'm beginning my first doubles sand league, playing with my good friend and setter, Deb.

What else have I been doing? Since its been raining, I haven't spent much time in my garden, but I have put a few days in this break so far. Also since May 22 when my break began I have read three books, been disappointed in the Nuggets, gone to Lindsey's wedding, played a softball game, gone to Aunt Kathy's 50th birthday party, gone shopping with my mom, and have been enjoying my time with my friend Brooks who is visiting Colorado for a few weeks.

Now that we're caught up...keep and eye out for the pictures, I've been pretty proud of what I've done so far!

Spring (Break) Cleaning

On my first official day of spring break I spent the day doing nothing much out of the ordinary except a little shopping and cleaning. I opted to buy a few extra things for my kitchen this month...are you ready for this?... kitchen towels, some oil to treat my butcher block, a hook for my kitchen towels, and a glass jar for my coffee, pot holders, and a cutting board (the last two were peer pressure because I've gotten multiple complaints from multiple visitors about the absence of the two.)

Anyway I ran home to put everything away and began my night of cleaning. I treated the butcher block that will be ready for another coat in 6 hours and the project done in 72. I swept and mopped all the floors and prepped my basement which after attempting to watch half a really dorky movie last night, I decided I'd rather be painting.

My goal is to have my basement looking stellar before my parents come for the arrive of my nephew next Thursday.

In this time of spring(break) cleaning. My goal is to also read a couple books, (aren't you supposed to procrastinate somewhat?) hang up curtains after painting in the basement and PERHAPS rip the carpet out of the back room.
